Mission of the Youth Stage
The Viru Folk Youth Stage was created with the mission of offering young musicians the opportunity to perform for a larger audience and share their music with a wider community. The programme was initiated by folk musician and enthusiast Henrika Trave, whose passion is to provide the new generation with a platform to present their work and gain valuable experience. The youth programme has grown rapidly and has become an important part of Viru Folk’s identity, giving young artists the chance to be part of one of Estonia’s most distinctive festival experiences.
One of the central elements of the programme is the Youth Stage, which brings together talented young musicians from across Estonia and beyond. The Youth Stage is not merely a performance platform — it is a place where new musical discoveries are born, where first stage experiences grow into confidence, and where future musical careers may begin. Our goal is to offer young musicians a professional stage and an audience that helps them grow and inspires other young people to follow their dreams.
The Viru Folk youth programme is not focused solely on performance opportunities — it is part of a broader movement aimed at helping young musicians reach further. We believe that talented young artists should have access to platforms that carry their music into the wider world. To support this, we provide opportunities to perform on stages with high‑quality sound and professional production, to connect with experienced musicians and mentors, and to build valuable contacts within the music industry.
We also aim to be a source of inspiration and encouragement for the younger generation. Through the Youth Stage, we can show that every young person has the potential to realise their dreams if they have passion and determination. When one brave young artist steps onto the stage and receives a warm welcome from the audience, it may spark the desire in another young person to pick up an instrument and begin their own journey.
The Viru Folk youth programme is a growing and evolving platform that places the support of young talent and creativity at its heart. The Youth Stage is its core — a place where dreams become reality. Our festival is not only a place to enjoy music — it is a community where young musicians can grow, develop, and experience. The Viru Folk youth programme is a springboard for future stars and a place where music truly lives and breathes.
